*New Series*: Fitness Fortune Telling
An idea inspired (okay, copied) from a friend and colleague, I bought a box of 100 fortune cookies. Each week I’ll share a fortune and some insight into how it applies to your mindset, health, and fitness journey.
I have to do something with these cookies, so now I’m committed. :-)
Our first fortune:
Endurance and persistence will be rewarded.
I can't think of anything more fitting for a relevant fortune. How often do we embark on a new health journey wanting the quick fixes?
We’re sold diets and fitness plans on the basis of simplicity, but quickly come to learn simple doesn’t mean easy.
While it might be simple to understand, we experience the difficulty of implementation.
Our solution is to over-complicate the process because it makes us feel better about how difficult it really is.
Here’s the thing: Complicating the process only increases the difficulty because it gets you further away from the actual solutions that are going to produce results.
If you want body composition changes, there are two things that need to be true:
The first is a calorie deficit. This is a non-negotiable.
The second is time. You need time for the calorie deficit to work.
And that's why endurance and persistence will always be rewarded. If you can create that calorie deficit and you can give it the proper amount of time that it needs to work, it does not have to be complicated.
It can then be both simple and a hell of a lot easier.
Stay tuned next week for a new fortune.

“Is This Why You Gain Weight At Night?”
Takeaway: If you are gaining weight and eating late at night, it’s not because late-night eating turns to fat. It’s because you’re falling prey to the Triad of Overconsumption.

“Relationships: Are You “Phubbing” Your Partner?”
Takeaway: Research looking into phone use and its impact on romantic relationships has found that 89% of surveyed couples reported pulling their phone out during a recent interaction with their partner.
The term “phubbing” (phone + snubbing) refers to ignoring your partner during a social interaction in favor of your phone.
It could be anything from the harmless act of checking a text form the babysitter to checking the score of the latest sports game.
This article takes a look at the impact of such behaviors on relationship satisfaction. Worth reading. (Because if you’re like me, you’re probably guilty of this from time to time.)
