Takeaway: This article is an interesting look into René Girard's perception of human behavior, which focuses on the importance of desire, as he believed that humans learn to want through mimicking others. Girard argues that people don't want things themselves, but rather they want to be the people who have or use those things. Desire comes from "mediators" or "models" for our desire, and we learn from watching and copying them. This phenomenon is called mimetic desire, and can induce self-deception and shame.
