Takeaway: Discover the 3 key components necessary for building confidence: living by your values, experiencing challenges, and evidencing prior success.
Confidence is made up of three key components:
1. Living by your values.
Most people don’t even know what their values are, so there’s no fault why you don’t feel self-assured. Figure out what you value and build a life around those things that matter.
2. Having a broad array of experiences—some difficult.
Being put into new and challenging situations forces you to expand your perspective, come up with creative solutions, and exposes you to a larger variety of problems.
The unknown is what causes you to shrink. Make the unknown known and you’ll be able to stand tall in the face of future adversity.
3. Evidence of prior success.
The biggest fear when faced with an unknown obstacle is whether or not you’ll fail. You build confidence by compounding wins over time—both big and small. The more evidence you have of your capabilities, the greater confidence you’ll feel.
You need all three pieces to build your confidence.
