Takeaway: You consistently fail to reach your fitness goals because you confuse the means as the end. And it isn’t your fault, chances are good that your favorite fitness influencer or coach perpetuates the biggest lie in the fitness industry.
Fitness is not the end, it’s the means.
The means to feeling better: more energy, more longevity, and better mental health.
The means to living better: more confidence, more resilience, and better experiences.
Too many fitness coaches confuse what they do as the end goal for their client—the weight loss, the muscle tone, or the gym personal records.
It’s framed as the most important thing in life, requiring blind adherence and cult-like buy-in.
In reality, those things only matter so much as they lead to the real end—the meaningful goals that actually matter. The life well lived. The feelings of contentment and satisfaction. The sense of peace that comes with giving this great journey of life everything you’ve got.
As a coach, it’s our job to help our clients keep this in perspective, to help them live better OUTSIDE of the gym.
Not to perpetuate a false loyalty to iron worship.
