That’s how long it takes for the chemical reaction to run its course. Anything after that? That’s the story you’re telling yourself.
Here’s how to break the loop:
1. Observe:
Feel it—but just observe. Notice your body. Tense? Hot? Shaky? Name it.
2. Evaluate:
Still feeling it after 90 seconds? You’re stuck in a thought loop—rewriting the story to stay upset. What’s the narrative in your head?
3. Retell:
Flip the script. What’s another way to see it? What’s the silver lining?
New story. New emotion. New outcome.
