Coaching Conversations: Setting Boundaries Around Helping Others
Takeaway: In this clip, one of our members was struggling to prioritize her health. She was giving so much to others that she had nothing left to give herself.
This is a common scenario I see played out with many of the men and women we’ve helped.
It was also a trap I fell into early on when I became a professional coach. I wanted to help anyone and everyone, and that begun to cause more harm than good.
In this clip, I share my easy-to-follow framework for deciding who to help and when.

The Connection Between Physical and Mental Health [Podcast]
Takeaway: In this very special episode, we’re bringing back an interview I’d done with a former client, a therapist and former podcast host of the compassion fatigue podcast, to discuss the very important topic of mental health benefits of fitness.
You’ll hear about research in the role of exercise in reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions, as well as some practical strategies to set yourself up to feel your absolute best—inside and out.
If you’ve been around you know how much we talk about mindset here, so I think you’re really going to enjoy it.
13 Divorces Among The 10 Richest Men (A Few Thoughts on Wealth)
Takeaway: This article ponders interesting questions around the concept of getting rich. A few insights I found shareable:
Most of what makes you happy in life has nothing to do with money, and realizing that once you have money can be a painful admission.
According to interviews with some of the worlds most successful people, they believed fame and fortune would solve their problems.
They had hope during the process, believing this were true.
The moment they achieved the pinnacle of success is when they became the most hopeless—because nothing changed.
Charlie Munger was once asked by one of his rich friends if leaving his kids a bunch of money would ruin their drive and ambition.
His response, “Of course it will, but you still have to do it.”
It’s the natural drive of a parent to create a better life for their children than they had. Yet, this can often hinder the children by robbing them of important growth moments.
As Munger said, giving away fortunes to your children will likely impede their own ambitions (except a small few), but not giving them the money will make them hate you.
Luxury is relative. The world’s richest are most prone to expectations spinning out of control because they are keenly aware of how other rich people live.
A modest, suburban home with enough rooms so each family member has their own space, a nice yard with room to entertain, and a cozy place to call your own would be a dream for many.
And yet, that could be the worst nightmare for someone accustomed to living in multi-million dollar penthouses and mansions.
Money can fix a lot of logistical problems. It can house and feed you, provide the freedom to pursue your passions and interests without worry. Money is a tool that can be used to build a grand life.
Lest we fall prey to the idea that money can solve every problem—mistaking money as happiness.
Reader Question:
What motivates you to maintain your own health, to keep off the weight you lost? How do you find the time?
For a long time it was fear of going back to where I was. After a while, it became a part of my identity. If I don’t maintain where I’m at, I don’t feel like myself anymore.
I also realized how much I was held back from experiencing when I was out of shape. Far more than I even realized at the time. A whole new world opened up to me. I’m motivated to ensure I never have to sit out of an activity that I want to take part in.
Those things together make for a pretty strong insurance policy that I’ll stay consistent with my fitness.
In the end, we all have to find our own reasons. For some it’s to get back to a hobby they love. For others, it’s to be able to get on the floor to play with the grandkids.
The right reason makes all the difference.
