Bite into Adventure: The Simple Rule That Could Revolutionize Your Relationship With Food
Mindset Monday
Takeaway: What do food and good experiences have in common? Well, quite a lot as you might imagine. Today I’m giving you one tip to invite more adventure into your life.
When it comes to new foods, I have one simple rule:
I will try anything once, but then I reserve the right to never eat it again.
Most of my life I assumed this was pretty normal, but it turns out to be far less common than I thought.
I’ve never quite understood peoples’ aversiveness to trying new and unfamiliar foods. What’s the worst thing that could happen—you experience one bite of something that isn’t pleasurable? How long does that misery last, a few seconds?
I’m not encouraging you to submit to the masochism of repeatedly eating things you don’t enjoy, hence the second half of that rule above. Instead, I’m encouraging you to be adventurous.
The physical food aside, embracing this open-mindedness can invite more adventure to your life in other ways, too.
What types of restaurants would you experience if you didn’t immediately write it off? What types of people would you cross paths with if you put yourself in these new environments?
Throughout human history, food has been used as a tool of human connection. In many ways it still reigns supreme in that regard.
Don’t be so quick to throw it by the wayside because of a few potential moments of discomfort.
