Takeaway: Do not feel pressured toward any particular practice in mindfulness—such as more traditional meditation—just because someone else says you should. Find an enjoyable hobby that brings you into the present moment and you will have found a way to practice mindfulness.
Mindfulness takes on many shapes and can be found in the most unlikely of places.
Do not feel pressured toward any particular practice in mindfulness—such as more traditional meditation—just because someone else says you should.
We each need to find our own path to becoming more present.
The way I practice mindfulness is through photography.
The thing I love about taking photos of my travels and the ordinary things I stumble upon is that it forces me to be more present.
I can't be lost in concerns of the past or future. I can't be preoccupied with the tasks on my to-do list or that passing comment that seemed out of place.
I have to be exactly where I am, free of expectation, with open eyes and an open mind, taking in my surroundings.
I have to be present enough to look up and see a light fixture in the corner of the cafe where I'm drinking my coffee, with permission to stare for a moment, unhurried.
My photos are the byproduct of my practice in mindfulness, a reminder that I am exactly where I need to be.
Find an enjoyable hobby that brings you into the present moment and you will have found a way to practice mindfulness.
