Takeaway: If you remain consistent, you don’t have to hate exercise forever.
“I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy exercise.”
This phrase is often spoken by new members in our coaching program. A concern shared by many.
Exercise that’s hard isn’t fun. It’s not fun to do things we’re bad at.
Yet I’ve never met anyone who was consistent enough with exercise that continued to hate it forever.
Sure, when you’re pushing your physical limits it’s uncomfortable.
But you don’t have to continue pushing your limits forever.
Once you’ve reached your goals and have built a solid foundation of strength and stamina, you can shift focus to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
Here’s a great example:
I run two times per week. I don’t push for new record times. I don’t alter the distance that much.
I have a standard route that takes me along the beach. Straight out to the little Crepe shop on the boardwalk about two miles down the road, and straight back home.
It’s a workout I know my body can handle, one I’ve been doing for years. It’s pleasant, usually never uncomfortable except for the occasional hot and humid day.
Building up to running four miles wasn’t pleasant, but now it doesn’t feel difficult.
You won’t hate exercise forever if you keep up with it. I promise.
