Takeaway: You don’t need time to make a decision. You need information. Once you have all the information you need to make a sound decision, pull the trigger.

“You don’t need time to make a decision. You need information.” - Alex Hormozi
I heard Alex say this in an interview and it stuck out to me. How many times have you put off a decision because you felt like you, “needed more time?”
Usually when we say we need more time for a decision, we actually mean we need more information. But not always.
Sometimes we have all the information we need but we still push for more time.
For example, Katrina and I were planning a weekend to Chicago for my birthday. She was researching what to do and where to eat. She gave me two options for restaurants, this or that. I couldn’t decide. I told her I needed to think about it.
I read through both menus to see what I would like. I read through reviews to be sure the food was good. I had all the information I needed to make a decision. Still, I couldn’t decide.
It was not a product of needing more time, it was a product of being afraid to make the wrong decision.
We use time to avoid responsibility. The longer we can postpone making a decision, the longer we can spare ourselves any negative consequences of our choice.
Time doesn’t confer any benefit once we have all the information we need to make a decision. To the contrary, you waste time by drawing out a decision that you could’ve already made.
If you don’t feel ready to make a decision, then identify the missing information you need. If you aren’t missing necessary information, then make a decision. Plain and simple.
To swift decision making,
