Meet Your Heroes—And Be Disappointed
Takeaway: Early in my coaching career I did some work for an in-home training company. One of my first clients was the CEO of a company, and he was making upwards of $10 million per year.
I remember thinking, as I pulled into his mansion’s driveway, “What the hell does this guy need with a 25-year-old personal trainer? He’s clearly smart enough to do this on his own.”
I worked with that client for over a year, driving to his home in the early hours of the morning. We became good friends in that time. Throughout our interactions I realized an important lesson: This guy was phenomenal at the skills he got paid for.
He was sharp as could be, driven, and didn’t like to waste time. The epitome of a go-getter.
But he was also human.
He held many of the same misconceptions about exercise and nutrition as anyone else I’d met. He felt equally as lost and confused why he could be doing everything right and not see results.
This experience taught me one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned as an adult:
We are all human.
We all have insights and skills that are valuable to offer the world.
We are all flawed.
Intelligence and success is domain specific, and just because someone is great at one task doesn’t mean they’ll be good at everything.
Meet the people you are inspired by, the ones you think are inhuman, for no other reason than to see they aren’t so different from you.

Your Teachers Were Wrong: Procrastination Might Be The Answer To Overcome Your Cravings
Takeaway: In this article, we dig into why we can't resist junk food and how it's tied to the joy we get from the dopamine rush. It introduces an interesting trick for taking back control: procrastination.
When we delay indulging without setting a specific date, it helps us avoid obsessing over the forbidden treats, ultimately making it simpler to say no to cravings and lean towards healthier options down the road.
Takeaway: You probably give great advice to friends, and are also equally as likely to ignore that advice yourself.
The author, Sahil Bloom, suggests two strategies to beat this phenomenon and make better decisions amidst the whirlwind of emotion:
Create space to remove yourself from the emotional reaction, and zoom out to force new perspective.
Reader Question:
I’ve been working really hard on my core in the gym. I want visible abs for summer. I keep trying this cable crunch exercise that I saw online.
The problem is that I only ever feel it in the top of my thighs. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but it looks like such a good exercise for the abs. Any tips?
One of my favorite ab exercises! Check out this video below for a common correction I make to help clients feel their abs light up on this exercise.
