Helping Friends Succeed
I have a friend who recently went on social media to announce he was training for a BJJ competition in August. In order to compete he’d need to lose 30 pounds in 50 days—a hard challenge.
His post was meant to inspire extra accountability toward his goals.
On day one, I messaged him to meet me on the beach for a run. We did two miles.
During that run he confessed to me that he had been feeling inspired lately by other friends in our circle.
One who had just competed in her own BJJ tournament and took two first place finishes (with zero points scored against her—the equivalent of a shutout.)
Another friend who had just shot her first music video for a dance company brand she is building.
He even shared that watching me work on my various projects—building the coaching business, growing the men’s fitness group, writing the friendship book—gave him energy.
Aside from those examples he shared, we have friends doing things like:
Starting a new business after a big career change.
Writing a book about the role of deep-rooted trauma in shaping our lives.
Writing, producing, and performing original music throughout our city.
Training to compete in August in the World Games in China for a rather unique sport.
The list could go on…
This is one of the things I love about the social dancing community—it inherently attracts people prone to doing things.
And one of the biggest life hacks is to be around people who inspire you and are putting in the work to achieve their goals.
By osmosis, you will be more successful, inspired, and pushed to action when you spend time around these types of people.
And if you are one of these people already putting in the work, support your friends when they share their vision with you.

Motivation Is the New Quick-Fix Diet
Takeaway: Motivation is unreliable, and chasing it is just another way to avoid taking responsibility.
Real change happens when you stop waiting to feel ready and start taking ownership of your actions—regardless of how motivated you feel.
Can Air Conditioning Make You Sick?
Takeaway: Turns out, the humidity level in your home p[lays a big role in the likelihood of falling ill. The ideal humidity is between 40-60%.
Too much of a good thing (A/C) can dry out the air and cause unwanted dry throat and other cold-like symptoms.
Takeaway: Navigating life’s hardest moments, it appears, rests in the joining of two seemingly opposing mindsets: Naive Optimism and Hopeless Realism.
The recognition and acknowledgement of today’s challenges, combined with the unwavering faith that it will all eventually work out.
