Takeaway: Your health isn’t just about the number on the scale—it’s the foundation for everything else you want in life. When you stop spending energy on insecurity, pain, or exhaustion, you free yourself to actually live.
Getting Fit Wasn’t the Goal—It Was the Gateway
I decided a long time ago that I didn’t want to go through life with any stones unturned.
I wanted to make the most of my time here. I wanted to look back one day and know—I said yes to the life I actually wanted.
But here’s the part most people don’t realize:
That ability to say yes—to the cool, exciting, fulfilling stuff—didn’t happen when I lost the weight.
It happened after I had been living that healthy lifestyle for years.
I had already left behind the struggle of weight loss. I had already built the habits. I had already learned how to take care of myself.
But it still took time for me to feel free enough to say yes to the rest of my life.
Because you can’t chase your dreams when you’re still drowning in self-doubt.
You can’t take big swings when you’re worried about whether your shirt is going to ride up, or if your knees are going to hold up during the hike, or if your seatbelt is going to fit on the flight.
You can’t even fully be present when your brain is on a loop of shame, stress, or survival.
That’s what health does—it clears the static.
When your energy isn’t being drained by insecurity or pain or exhaustion… you get to live.
That’s the shift.
It’s not about getting six-pack abs or impressing your friends from high school at the reunion. It’s not even about the scale, really.
It’s about getting to the point where you feel good enough in your body that you stop thinking about it all the time.
Because when your health is no longer the main character in your life… you get to be.
So if you’ve ever felt like you’re missing out—on adventures, on relationships, on confidence—or maybe you don’t even know what you’re missing yet, you just know your story isn’t where you want it to be… start with your health.
Not because it’s the flashiest goal.
But because it’s the one that unlocks all the others.
Here’s a quick exercise that might help:
Write down three experiences you’ve put off—or talked yourself out of—because of your health. Travel. Hiking. Playing with your kids. Dating. Anything.
Now ask yourself: What would need to change in your health to say yes to those things?
That’s your “why.” That’s the life we’re building toward.
And no, it doesn’t have to be perfect.
You don’t have to go zero to marathon. You don’t need to meal-prep an entire Pinterest board. You just have to start.
Build momentum from the small steps taken consistently.
So if your life feels like it’s on pause while you wait for the “right” time to change…
This is the sign.
Hit play.
Let’s stop wasting time.
