“Using Fitness As A Toolbox w/ Laurie” [Podcast]
Takeaway: I loved this chat with Laurie. One part in particular I want to highlight here.
I haven’t had a fitness goal since 2018. That’s because after losing 80+lbs, running a marathon, and competing in bodybuilding shows, I’ve accomplished everything I ever wanted to do with my fitness.
Sure, I’m still focused on getting stronger and have a habit of running a few times a week, but I don’t have a specific fitness-related goal.
Instead, the role of fitness in my life now is to ensure I’m capable of achieving all of the other goals that I have in my life.
Building my business, traveling and exploring the world, showing up as my best self every day… Those are where my goals lie now. Fitness as shifted from the end goal to a means by which I can give myself the advantage to achieve these other goals.
This is where I think a lot of fitness coaches go wrong. They mistakenly try to indoctrinate their clients into the mentality that fitness is the end, that their life needs to be wrapped up around PRs and macros and new exercises.
Fitness is never the end, and always a means. It would benefit us all to remember that.
“12 Non-Obvious Traits of High Performers”
Takeaway: From the outside, some of the traits can appear as something other than a strength. Laziness, confusing behavior, and other negative traits might come to mind before, “high performer.”
Nevertheless, when broken down, there are clues as to why these traits can put you at the advantage. Modulate Intensity was my favorite.
“How To Correct Diastasis Recti”
Takeaway: Diastasis Recti occurs when the rectus abdominis (your six-pack muscle) separates due to an increased amount of pressure in the abdominal region. Most often this occurs during pregnancy in women, but it can happen to anyone.
Fortunately, the right exercises and help build your core and improve or even eliminate the issue. The wrong exercises can make it worse. Focus on building your “corset muscles,” your pelvic floor muscles, and incorporate proper breathing.
