Takeaway: Food should enhance our experiences and, by choosing high-quality indulgences less often, we can truly savor and appreciate them without letting food dominate our lives.
Food should enhance our experience, not be our experience.
While food is pleasurable, fun, and a part of celebrations and connections, it shouldn't be the main focus.
At social events like weddings or barbecues, the real joy is in the company, not the chips and dip that are laid out in front of you.
If we choose to indulge, we should seek the highest quality versions of our favorite foods. For example, instead of settling for fast food pizza, opt for a gourmet one. Rather than buying generic ice cream, visit a local parlor for the best scoop.
The problem often lies in consuming mundane, readily available foods, which can diminish our experiences.
By reserving indulgences for the best versions, we enjoy them more and make them worthwhile.
And we won’t continue to fall prey to the food landscape that pushes us to poor health.
