A Cheat Code to Making the Impossible Feel Attainable
Mindset Monday
Being around successful people shifts your ambition because extraordinary success feels attainable.
And when success feels attainable, you lock in and work longer, harder, and with more focus. - Shane Parrish
In my early twenties, I noticed the types of numbers some of my personal training clients would talk about:
Closing multimillion-dollar deals.
Making hundreds of thousands of dollars in commission on one business contract.
One client, when he hired me, trained so often that he single-handedly doubled my salary.
As a broke twenty-something-year-old I couldn’t believe it. Those types of numbers felt so unreal. I’d have a literal, physical reaction whenever they’d get brought up.
But over time, something interesting happened. My body didn’t react to those big numbers the same way.
I remember one moment vividly. One client proudly shared he just made over $300k on a single commission. He wasn’t bragging, he was genuinely proud. But I noticed that I didn’t flinch at the number the way I used to in these situations. I gave him an enthusiastic smile, a fist bump, and told him to finish his set or I’d add more weight.
That’s when I realized talking about money is these large sums began to feel normal—even if I didn’t personally have that much.
When something feels normal it feels attainable. And as Parrish said, that means you’ll work harder to reach the goal because it feels within reach.
This is true for financial success.
It’s true for your health.
It’s true of every aspect of your life.
Being around the type of people who are achieving the things you aspire toward is a cheat code to unlocking limitless motivation.
