Takeaway: In this article I share five activities/behaviors you should begin implementing in your life to increase levels of wellbeing and contentment with your life.
5 Things Everyone Should Do More Of
We’ll keep is short and simple. Five things everyone should start doing more of to be happier:
1. Hire a photographer to capture high quality photos.
I love to do this on my travels, but even doing it right at home will capture some great memories. Do them with your spouse, with your family, your pets, or even by yourself. Everyone deserves to have high quality pictures to look back on one day.
2. Try a new activity that makes you nervous.
I learned how to dance because dancing terrified me. I got butterflies for months showing up to my lessons and classes. But there's something empowering about overcoming those nerves and anxiety to learn something fun. Like putting a bully in their place.
3. Do something nice for a stranger, unprompted.
Walking down the street and notice someone taking a selfie? Offer to take their photo. It'll take maybe 60sec out of your day, but that photo could mean a lot to them one day. If you notice someone's outfit while picking up your coffee, tell them. I bet a compliment would make their whole day better.
4. Say something your grateful for, out loud, every day.
Gratitude has been shown to drastically improve measures of wellbeing. (Even if nothing else in your life changes.) Something this powerful should not be put to waste.
Take a moment each day—could be first thing in the morning, right before bed, or any time in between—and say something your grateful for. If it’s a specific person, tell them to their face. You’ll be a happier person.
5. Have a standing date in your calendar for something fun.
Adulting is hard because there are so many things competing for your attention. Your career, spouse, children, friends, and basic responsibilities like cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Not to mention if you dare have a hobby. It’s easy to lose sight of aspects of your identity that are important to you.
Learning the delicate balance of filling your cup and handling your business can drastically improve your levels of contentment. Set a standing appointment in your calendar to do something fun. Could be once a month, every week, or at whatever interval best suits your lifestyle. It’ll give you something to look forward to and also act as a good reminder that life is meant to be enjoyed.
Begin implementing these five activities and you’l'l begin to feel your overall sense of contentment skyrocket. Simple, but effective. Yet, they only work if you do them. Get out there and start doing them.
